Contact lenses
EyeVision by André Her in Frankfurt
A lot has changed for the better, particularly in the ever-growing contact lens market. Contact lenses, which were viewed with some skepticism just a few years ago, have been improved enormously in terms of material and geometry thanks to constantly advancing technical developments.
These small, practical visual aids have become a serious alternative for many people with poor vision, especially since they are often the only practical correction option, especially when playing sports. Whether you need a hard, flexible or soft contact lens, a monthly or daily contact lens, we can recommend the lens that is exactly right for your needs.
Contact lens specialist shop in Frankfurt – FAQ
Is putting in and taking out contact lenses painful?
No. If handled correctly, neither insertion nor removal is painful.
I have a rubbing sensation in my eyes when I wear my contact lenses. Why is that?
This can certainly happen during the adjustment period - your eye still perceives the contact lens as a foreign body. If you have been wearing contact lenses for a long time, you should remove the contact lens and clean it. If this feeling persists, it is best to visit your optician.
Is it true that I cannot wear contact lenses if I have astigmatism?
No, that's wrong. Toric contact lenses can correct astigmatism. In fact, they often do this better than glasses.
Can I sleep with contact lenses?
There are special contact lenses that you can wear around the clock. However, this should be done under close supervision with your optician to avoid possible complications. Most lenses should be removed before going to bed.
What do I do if I can't get the contact lens out of my eye?
Please remain calm at this moment. This can happen especially if you have been wearing contact lenses for too long or if your eyes are very dry. Wet your eyes and move the lenses around on your eye. You should then be able to remove the contact lenses as usual - if not, see your doctor or optician.
Can I go swimming with contact lenses?
That depends on whether you wear swimming goggles and what contact lenses you use. If you don't wear swimming goggles, you should use daily contact lenses, if at all, as otherwise the risk of infection is very high. It is possible to wear any type of contact lens under swimming goggles.
Can the contact lens slip behind the eye?
This is completely impossible because the conjunctiva, eyeball and eyelid are firmly fused together. This means that the lens is always stopped before it can move behind the eyelid, even if it slips a little. So you don't have to worry!
Can I get by completely without glasses if I wear contact lenses?
If you get on well with your contact lenses, there is nothing wrong with wearing them a lot. However, you should always have a pair of glasses "in reserve". It is good for your eyes to give them a break from the lenses once a week. You will also need to wear glasses temporarily if you have injuries or inflammations in your eyes. And if you run out of contact lenses, for example because you have damaged or lost lenses, it is helpful to be able to use your glasses as a backup.
How long can I wear my contact lenses?
There are no rules for this. Some people can only tolerate contact lenses for a few hours and then need to give their eyes a break, others wear them every day from morning to night without any problems - it depends on the contact lens material and the condition of the eye and tear film. Here you can only listen to your eyes - they will tell you exactly how much contact lens time you can tolerate. However, you should have one contact lens-free day per week.
I wear progressive lenses – are contact lenses even an option for me?
Absolutely! There are multifocal contact lenses that can also be used to correct presbyopia. However, it is particularly important to have them adjusted by a specialist, as the prescriptions from glasses cannot simply be transferred. So be sure to get detailed advice and intensive care so that you can find the right contact lenses for your needs.
My eyes are very dry. Can I still wear contact lenses?
If you want to try contact lenses, don't be put off! Get advice from a specialist; there are contact lenses that are well suited to people with dry eyes. An experienced specialist can help you find the perfect lenses and support you during the adjustment period.
When should I not wear contact lenses?
If your eyes are red, injured or inflamed, you should wear glasses for a while. Pregnancy, colds, taking medication and allergies can affect the production of tears in the eye. The general rule is: if you have any problems, you should give your eyes a break. If in doubt, speak to your specialist about the problem.
Why do I need to have my contact lenses checked regularly?
The interaction between the eye and the contact lens should be checked regularly, at least once a year. This allows changes in the eye or a change in strength to be detected early on.
